Our Resurrection Eggs & Lapbook and Hill of Calvary!

We are just having an amazing time preparing for Resurrection Sunday!
We believe this is the most important holiday in our Christian beliefs, and so, we are making a very concerted effort to infuse lots of fun activities with a focus on the resurrection of Jesus!

Here are some of the fun things we have been working on.....ENJOY!!

Resurrection Eggs

Elle was very helpful in putting all of the printables inside.
Each egg has a picture and also a little paper with a typed up summary of the bible scripture for that picture. Each egg carefully describes the story of Christ's time right before, during and after his crucifixion.

Each evening, as a family, we open one egg and learn the lesson for that day!
Em loves working on the Resurrection Eggs and putting them all in order.

There are lots of different ways to make your own Resurrection Eggs, or you can purchase them already assembled if you prefer. We chose to just use a printable and make our own.
You can find the printables we used here.
The girls have had such a fun time learning more about the story of Jesus' Crucifixion and Resurrection using these eggs. Elle's little sensitive soul has deeply been touched this week. She just keeps saying how sad she is that those mean people hurt Jesus so badly:)

Resurrection {Double} Lapbook

To further our study of the Resurrection of Christ, we put together a really neat little lapbook!! We combined the Resurrection Egg ideas with some additional fun crafts and bible stories. I tweaked some of the ideas found here.

The front of the lapbook with a palm leaf from our Palm Sunday church service.

These are the Resurrection Eggs with each of the pictures inside.
Elle is still working on parts of it, and really enjoying it:)
 Elle's Bible Story Mini-books.
This is a neat craft that you put together with a brass brad to be able to roll the tomb stone away and reveal the angels saying "He is not here--He is risen!"

We put our mini-books in little envelope pockets on the back of the lapbook.
Our Bible Memory Verse for this week!!!

Jesus' Tomb: Calvary Hill
We have been eagerly awaiting the growth of our calvary hill {and still waiting, lol}, but I wanted to go ahead and show you what we have achieved thus far.
Here is what we "hope" it will resemble once we are finished with it. {Trust me, I do NOT have a green thumb to save my life, but it has been fun working on this project and we actually also completed a gardening lesson that I will share with you as well:)}

 {Photo credit: Mustard Seeds}
You can find the whole tutorial on how to make your own here. Maybe an idea for next year?

We didn't have the wheat grass, but we used regular grass and we are finally seeing some growth! Here is how we built ours:)
This is a beautiful way to visually display the tomb of Christ and how it was empty once he was Resurrected with all power and glory in his hand!
The girls have done an excellent job keeping our Calvary Hill watered.

The girls have loved checking on their little hill every day!

Yay--the grass if finally growing (day 11)!!! We hope it fills in and grows nice and thick so we can add our branch crosses before Resurrection Sunday! We'll update once the project is complete:)
{update}HE IS RISEN-THE TOMB IS EMPTY!! PRAISE THE LORD!!

We sure hope you enjoyed seeing what we are doing and are inspired to have some fun in your lessons on Resurrection Sunday as well:)
If you would like to see some more fun Resurrection Sunday/Easter activities (including food:), please check out our posts HERE.

Easter Egg Chicks {Edible}, Resurrection Rolls, Jelly Bean Prayer etc.

We have been having such a wonderful time preparing our hearts and minds to celebrate Resurrection Sunday also known as "Easter."
Our girls have been having a fun time with lots of different books, crafts and fun foods! I would like to share some of them with you in hopes you may be inspire to incorporate some fun activities into your home during this Easter Season.
Our Easter Books
Some of the library books we are studying.
{Click on any of the photos to enlarge them}
We always love to incorporate food into our learning. We love to cook {and we LOVE to eat} and it is always fun to reinforce a lesson with a food activity!

Edible Baby Easter Chicks

Aren't these the cutest little baby chicks? They are made like deviled eggs--simple and sweet! I got the idea here.

We also talked about how baby chicks breaking out of their shells represents Jesus breaking through the darkness of this world to shine His glorious light of love for all to see and experience!

The only problem with making "cute" or animal-shaped foods is our animal-lover daughters usually prefer to play with them and "pet" them than eat them, LOL!

Resurrection Rolls
I read about Resurrection Rolls and just knew we had to try them!
Our girls had so much fun making them! They are very simple (yet, unhealthy), but offer an amazing visual opportunity to teach about the tomb being empty when Jesus was resurrected!  You can find the instructions to make them here.

Here is a recap of the ingredients and how you can use them to walk through the story of Easter with your children:
1-crescent rolls (represent the grave garments of Jesus Christ-and later, the tomb)
2-marshmallow is the body of Christ
3-melted butter (the oil used on the body of Christ)
4-cinnamon/sugar mix (the spices of embalming used once Christ as dead)
The girls did not know what to think of the marshmallows---it was the 1st time they had ever seen them or eaten them;) Didn't take long though, they wanted to try it!

The tomb was empty!!! Jesus is Risen!
What a wonderful (and tasty)illustration of the empty tomb of Jesus!
It was so funny, Em could not believe it was empty! She kept thinking something (Jesus) was going to come jumping out of the roll! LOL.

Jelly Bean Prayer
We also put together a small jar of jelly beans and attached the Jelly Bean Prayer to it.

The prayer reads:

Red is for the blood He gave.

Green is for the grass He made.

Yellow is for the sun so bright.

Orange is for the edge of night.

Black is for the sins we made.

White is for the grace He gave.

Purple is for His hour of sorrow.

Pink is for our new tomorrow.

An egg full of jelly beans, Colorful and Sweet

Is a prayer, a promise, A loved one's treat!!

We got the printable tags here.

Tiny Easter Baskets
Our other recent Easter-related craft was miniature Easter Baskets with tiny little jelly beans in them!

Aren't they a-dor-a-ble?!

We just simply cut up our egg carton, painted them and attached handles made from pipe cleaners. You can see more detailed instructions here.

We have had a whole lot of fun this week!
We hope you are enjoying your Lenten Season and preparing to celebrate the most holy holiday of the year!
Please share your fun Easter activities with us!
Blessings,
Aria:)

"Shared Food Has No Calories"...

My husband absolutely LOVES Italian food! He could eat spaghetti and meatballs every.single.day and be in heaven:-) Me, not so much. It's not that I do not like pasta with tons of cheese and sauce, it is that I know that I will instantly gain 5 pounds if I do not work out even MORE after eating it that makes it less desirable for me.

That being said, I do not cook Italian foods that often. Truth be told, my husband makes a killer lasagna! So, when I do break from our healthy eating trend and make something special--I go all out! You have been warned. This is NOT normally on our menu and won't be again for a very long time, but boy is it DELICIOUS!!!!

****If you are on a diet....don't look....trust me, you will kick yourself for even peaking. You will dream about this dinner. I know, I am getting hungry just thinking of it:)****

This was my very first attempt at stuffed shells. I think they turned out pretty well. Hubby says  "I out-did myself on this one!" That's a pretty good review, I'd say.

It really was pretty simple. I used some ricotta as well as cottage cheese, spinach, ground turkey, onions, eggs and grated parmesan and shredded mozzarella cheeses for the filling. Oh, and extra cheese and sauce on top:-) I told you it is not the diet version, lol.

As you can see, I used a ziploc baggie to pipe the filling into the shells. One additional tip I would offer is to cook the shells about 2 1/2 to 3 minutes LESS than what the box calls for and shock them in cold water. This way they stay firm for filling and get fulling baked in the oven.

Now, for the BEST part of the meal. Oh, my!! I cannot even begin to tell you how amazing this CHEESEY garlic bread is! Maybe because I haven't had anything but whole wheat bread in so long, but it is truly amazing! Sinfully good. I found the idea on a blog by a woman who is a true inspiration to my heart. You can find it here. I started with it and tweaked it a bit to suit our family. I added some garlic to the cheese and also italian seasoning in the cheese and on top of the bread. It was AMAAAAYZING!!
Elle did a wonderful job helping me. She had so much fun stuffing the cheese into the bread!
Did I mention it was CHEESEY!??

See what I mean??? Oh, it is divine!!
A MUST-TRY recipe!!

Of course, we had to have our fruits and veggies first. Elle did some fraction work while de-seeding the cucumbers for salad:)

When Em finally woke up from her nap, she was happy to join us in the kitchen!

Everyone LOVED it!!

And, now to explain the title of this post. I heard long ago that "shared food has no calories" and it is certainly true! I am known for feeding friends and family and giving away tons of food to our neighbors. So, I made an extra batch of stuffed shells and baked some banana bread to go along with it and blessed our elderly neighbors with it---they LOVED it, too:) {Even though I think I heard my husband's heart break just a tiny bit as he was walking it over to their house, LOL. He wanted to keep it all in the house for him us to eat, LOL!}

Now, back to my carrot sticks...:-)
