Snow Lessons and "A Snowy Day" Lapbook

We recently {finally} received a lot of snow, so it was a perfect time to begin our homeschool lessons on snow! I have to admit, I LOVE the 4 seasons. I really don't mind winter and actually enjoy looking at the snow. Now, driving in it is another thing, but it is pretty to look at:)
Our Bible memory verse for the week.
 Our library books.

Some of our crafts.
Elle loved making words using glue and artificial craft snow!
Elle's "The Snowy Day" Lapbook. This was so fun to make!

Doing some fun "snow painting" with glue and shaving cream.

Em's Winter Words book.
The girls had a lot of fun playing with bowls of snow.
Em was so amazed with watching the snow change from snow to water. "Where did the white color go?" Good question, my love!
We also did various experiments with weight, changing from solid to liquid, estimating what happens with temperature changes etc.
The girls writing down their observations to put into our science journal/binder.
We made crystal snowflakes with borax. It was fun and easy!
Instructions found here.
The snowflakes turned out great and they really sparkle in real life. So pretty!
 CeCe loves the snowflakes!

We made these cute little snowman snow globes using contact paper and paper plates.
Get the instructions here.
We changed our front windows to snowflakes instead of fall leaves.
Winter is finally here!
Em working on her Letter S drawer.
I put together this shoe box with a scavenger hunt game. The girls really enjoyed searching the house for things that started with the letter S!

Shoe, snowflake, sock, star etc. They did great finding things to put in the box!

Enjoying some "snowball" cookies we made!

Elle is still working on her advanced math lessons and reading. {I will spare you posting pics of her worksheets every time} LOL. Em is really enjoying drawing, cutting and pasting and trying to spell words. CeCe just LOVES trying to keep up with her big sisters!
We are so incredibly blessed!
Elle and Em are now taking ballet and tap dancing lessons in addition to Homeschool Gym.

They LOVE it and Ce Ce cannot wait to join them!
Thank you so much for following us on our journey--we love and appreciate each and every one of our blog followers!
Blessings,
Aria:)

Ce Ce's Tot School {19 Months old}

Ce Ce is now 19 months old and growing up way too fast!
Here is a re-cap of some of her recent adventures!

Enjoy!!
Working on her fine motor skills and pincer grasp by putting dry pasta into a narrow bottle opening.
All of our girls LOVE this closures board!
Working with her sisters on some 5 senses exploration.
 Shape sorting fun!
Making art with sandpaper, string and pompoms.
 Writing on the chalk board.
More fine motor skills work. Placing dry spaghetti into small holes on the top of the cheese canister. This takes a lot of concentration!
Trying to put pipe cleaners into the holes of a colander.
Helping to decorate the Kids' Christ-mas tree!

Spending time playing with our dog, Lady. Sadly, Lady passed away 2 days before Christmas:(. She was almost 14 years old and had Lymphoma (cancer).  She was the absolute sweetest dog you'd ever met and she is sorely, sorely being missed!!!

Then....we headed on vacation for nearly 2 weeks!!!
Ce Ce thought it was more fun to kiss Mommy than to pose for a family photo:)
Ce Ce LOVED spending time with Grandmother (my mother) in Florida! We took her with us on vacation and the girls had a ball with her!
"Homeschool happens everywhere!" This is certainly the case with us! Ce Ce working on some magnetic letters while on vacation.
Ce Ce learning about walking in the sand. She wasn't too sure about it at first, lol.
Breakfast, outside in December---I like it!
We went to a science learning center where we learned all about manatees!
Then, back home, just in time for Christmas!
Merry Christ-mas from me and my girlz!
We pray you have had a wonderful Christ-mas and your New Year is off to an amazing start!
Please keep our family in your prayers as we continuously pray for you!
Blessings,
Aria:)

Our Snow Dough Snowmen & New Years 2011! {Winter Crafts}

We saw these super-cute snowmen made out of home made play dough and had a fun time making them with the girls!  Really simple and really fun!

Here's the recipe:

Materials:
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 2 tablespoons white tempera paint
  • 1 tablespoon white or iridescent glitter
  • A few drops of peppermint extract (optional)

Instructions:
  1.   To make a batch, combine all of the ingredients except the peppermint extract (if using) in a medium-size pan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture holds together, about 5 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat and roll onto wax paper, knead and let cool.
Store in plastic zipper bag in the refrigerator.

We also have been having a wonderful time celebrating the New Year!!!
It is our family tradition to spend a quiet evening at home eating our
favorite home made appetizers (turkey meatballs, mini hamburger/sliders,
warm crab dip, spinach artichoke dip, bbq chicken wings, buffalo wings, etc)
and have a fun family Game Night! This year, bingo was the game of choice;)

We had a lot of fun making noisemakers and confetti to ring in the new year!

First, we used some small paper plates, folded them in half and filled them with
    dry macaroni and decorated them!

The girls loved dancing around with their
new "shakers" and saying "Happy New Year!"

Then, we took some empty water bottles, filled them
with dry macaroni and decorated them!
    Another fun and easy noisemaker!

We kept the left over tissue paper to use as confetti!!
From our little family to yours-----------HAPPY NEW YEAR 2011!!!!
    Blessings,
