It stayed dry!! (until Em got to it, lol)
The second experiment involved fire and how it needs air to stay burning. We used one of our carved out pumpkins and placed a candle into it. We then put a top on it and had the girls estimate what would happen to the fire. Elle thought it would all catch on fire! LOL.
Then, I decided to use a candle in a glass jar so the girls could actually see the flame dying down and eventually burning out! They LOVED being able to see the flame and I was able to tie it back to our Fire Safety lesson from last week (after our visit to the fire station.) It worked out great!
The final experiment for this unit study was proving that water has dissolved air in it. We first filled a glass with water and placed it on the table.
Then, we waited for an hour or so and came back to see if any air bubbles had formed...
Then, we talked about how fish use their gills to breathe under water--it was a very fun science day!!
Amazing!!! Love it, it looks like they had so much fun.

That DOES look like a fun science day! I need to do more of these kinds of things. I tend to have good intentions but not enough planning and follow-though.

I love that you use the words estimate and hypothesize. I have a hard time getting my 8th graders understand the importance of making a hypothesis before we do experiments. It's so great that you are working on those critical thinking skills already! You're so awesome!
